Adding an SSL Certificate

SSL is becoming more important for your sites.

SSL is becoming more important for your sites.

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. SSL Certificates validate your website's identity, and encrypt the information visitors send to, or receive from, your site. This keeps thieves from spying on any exchange between your server and your site visitors. This service is essential for all online stores and all types of sites who process sensitive information like credit card details, personal information, etc. SSL certificates can be ordered on an annual basis for a maximum period of 5 years (pricing starts at $25yr., with discounts for purchasing an SSL Certificate for a longer period). When you enable SSL by purchased an SSL Certificate, visitors will see "https" in the URL for your site, and also a lock symbol to the left of the URL in a browser. This inspires confidence for ecommerce transactions. Plus, Google now reports that it will reward sites that add SSL with some SEO points.

What if I Purchase My SSL Certificate from a Different Registrar?

The steps for the installation of the SSL certificate are the same, simply follow the steps described above to install the SSL. You will also need to generate a CSR -- Certificate Signing Request -- for the domain in question via the My domains > SSL certificates > CSR requests, which will be required to complete the installation. This is needed to complete the certificate configuration on your server here on WP Site Hosting and tie it to the SSL Certificate you purchased at a separate domain registrar.

*We've partnered with The SSL Store to offer market leading SSL options at very affordable prices: SSL Certificates Basic DV versus EV (Extended Validation):  Basic DV's (Domain Validations) are available from most hosts these days and are a fast and simple way to secure your website with industry-standard 128- or 256-bit encryption.  Extended Validation costs more and has a longer approval process.  It is recommended for ecommerce sites and will display a green bar in your browser URL window indicating the highest degree of trust.
